Trying out a more “cartoony” style this week. I think sometimes I become too focused on the details of things like clothing. Cartooning, after all, is the fine art of simplifying and omitting details. If you’re new here, Sabrecat is my first comic, and while I’ve been drawing some of the characters for a long time, I haven’t yet settled on what I would call my “signature style.” I’m using this comic as a learning tool for myself. And boy I’ve learned a lot! Writing, pacing, framing, points of view, the list goes on. There is SO much to learn in comics and I’m grateful for this venue to try things out.
As a side note, if you like comics, there is a comics anthology on sale now at Books-A-Million called Big Fat Little Lit for only $3.97! It includes comics by Art Spiegelman, Maurice Sendak, J.Otto Seibold and more. Look for it in the discount stacks near the calendars. Totally worth it!

I like the look of today’s strip. Are you still using the ballpoint for the borders?
I picked up BFLL at Books-a-Million a few weeks ago. It is a lot of fun and a great deal.
Thanks! I had a lot of cleanup to do on this one, so I scanned in the pencils and moved them around, then did everything in Photoshop. I still like the way the inks work in Flash (I don’t have to try so hard) but I didn’t quite get the hang of coloring in Flash, and moving back and forth between programs is a pain. One of these days I’d like to try the strip in Painter or Manga Studio.
